Fui a Ekali dos días después de llegar a Grecia para las vacaciones de verano. Había concertado una cita con el tío Petros por carta porque no quería pillarlo por sorpresa. Siguiendo con la comparación judicial, le di tiempo de sobra para que preparara su defensa.

Llegué a la hora acordada y nos sentamos en el jardín.

—Bueno, sobrino favorito -era la primera vez que me llamaba así-, ¿qué noticias me traes del Nuevo Mundo?

Si pensaba que iba a permitirle fingir que aquélla era una reunión social, la visita de un sobrino atento a su afectuoso tío, estaba equivocado.

El Tio Petros Y La Conjetura De Goldbach

Toda familia tiene su oveja negra; en la nuestra era el tío Petros.

Sus dos hermanos menores, mi padre y el tío Anargyros, se aseguraron de que mis primos y yo heredáramos sin cuestionar la opinión que tenían de él.

—El inútil de mi hermano Petros es uno de los fiascos de la vida -decía mi padre cada vez que se le presentaba la ocasión.

Durante las reuniones familiares -que el tío Petros tenía por costumbre evitar-, el tío Anargyros acompañaba la mención de su nombre con gruñidos y muecas de disgusto, desdén o simple resignación, dependiendo de su humor.
